Can I take my Wedding Cake abroad?

Recently someone came up to me and asked ‘I am getting married abroad. Can I take my wedding cake with me’? The answer is yes, but it has to be taken on as hand luggage. In this instance, make sure that the wedding cake you chose isn’t too complicated or has lots of little lacy bits on it, or there is a big chance that it will get damaged in transit, especially if someone decides to jam a large carry on bag in the same overhead compartment that your precious wedding cake is in! Wedding Cakesgenerally travel well, but make sure that once you reach your destination they are stored somewhere that is cool and dry. Icing reacts with damp conditions, like inside a fridge, and once they are place back into a room and come up to temperature, the icing forms a moist layer which would cause coloured icing to ‘run’ and sugar flowers or some decorations to drop. Alternatively, save the cake for the celebrations once you arrive back home.

Once you chose your wedding cake maker, ensure that any ideas you have are taken into consideration. A good wedding cake maker will offer you advice and guidance, but it should always be towards what you want, and if you haven’t got a clue then have a look at the tips we wrote in the article Choosing a Wedding Cake
