Usher's Suits
Groom, Best Man, Fathers, and Ushers' suits
When thinking about the overall look of your wedding day, after the Bride's wedding dress, one of the next important outfits to organise is that of the Groom's party - the Groom's suit, the Father of the Groom's suit, the Father of the Bride's suit, and the Usher's suits.
It's a good idea to have finalised the number of Usher's now, so you know the total number of suits you will need to order. You also need to decide if the Father of the Bride, and Father of the Groom will be wearing suits too The number are not essential to have finalised, but it is one of the first questions you will be asked by the suit hire shop.
Trying on the Wedding Suits
In my opinion, when looking at the suit choices, the various designs, it's best to keep numbers to a minimum. Every one has an opinion, and most people like to share theirs, therefore the less opinions you have in the shop the better! My recommendation is to arrange a day for the Bride, the Groom, and the Best Man to get together. This will allow both the Bride and the Groom to see the suits on a third party.
Wedding Suit Hire Shops
Next phone around a few wedding suit hire shops and arrange appointments for that day. Probably best to allow enough time to try on 3 or 4 suits each, and then enough time for a coffee afterwards to discuss the favourite wedding suits.
Wedding Suit Design
The wedding suit design you choose need to be suitable for all of the men's body shapes, however it is important to remember that the Groom should, of course, look the best. You should also bear in mind that it is perfectly normal for you to change your mind completely on the design of the wedding suits once you have tried the chosen suit on.
It should be fairly easy for you to decide in advance if you will be going for a two-piece or a three-piece wedding suit. It's just a matter of personal preference. A two-piece suit is a jacket and trousers. A three-piece suit includes a waistcoat. Another option is of course a cummerbund - this would be more suited to a dinner jacket if you decide your suit design will be 'black tie'.
A lot of Groom's find wearing a waistcoat adds a feeling of making the suit special for the wedding day, as a lot of men wear a suit every day for work. Another benefit of wearing a waistcoat is that as the temperature raises, during dinner, before speeches, or whilst dancing, the suited gentlemen will be more comfortable having removed their jackets, and still look smart and uniformed in their waistcoats.
Waistcoats
It is a good idea to try and tie in the wedding colour scheme whenever possible. You can do just that with the waistcoats. Although your guests will probably never consciously notice, with the waistcoats, the flowers, the table decorations, and the ties or crevats all in similar colours, the day will have a wonderful feeling of cohesion about it.
Do my legs look short in this?
If any of your groom's party have shorter legs, or have a complex about being short, then a suit jacket which finishes lower, mid-thigh, or at knee-length, will not be good for them, and may make their legs look shorter.
Note Taking
Remember to write down notes; including the name of the shop, the name of each suit design, and your opinions. This is useful as many shops will have similar design suits, however subtle differences in the designs can make a suit in one shop the perfect wedding suit yet the same design from another shop 'the one that just didn't hang right'
Wedding Suit Trousers
Your choice of trousers will pretty much dictated by your choice of jacket, however you will still need to try different combinations of jackets and trousers to find out which combinations work well together, visually.
Wedding Shirts
Your choice with wedding shirts should be fairly simple; collar, cuffs, colour.
For the collar you can have cut-away, button-down, standard, or wing-collar Wing-collar is a popular choice for wedding shirts, as again it is a little extra touch which differentiates the wedding outfit from the normal Monday-to-Friday suit.
For the cuffs, your choices are double-cuff or single-cuff. You can normally wear cuff-links with either cuff shirts, however the double-cuff shirts are better designed for this.
Handkerchiefs
To be tucked in the wedding suit jacket, this should match the tie in colour.
