Wedding Doves

Weddings are full of symbolism and we've just discovered a beautiful idea for those of you who are considering a wedding on a picturesque Greek Island. The Dove's Nest was set up by Gerry Powell in 2008. Here is the story behind her venture:

"I bought some land on the Island of Kefalonia a year previously and the area, ( which I didnt know at the time ), was known by the Locals as 'Peristerias' which means land of the Doves.

I had lost my Husband some years before and had a Dove release at his funeral and it was beautiful, a memory which will stay with me forever. I had never seen one before and then found out they were used for weddings and other ceremonies. I believed my land purchase was a good omen and that was why the Doves were purchased.

I then met my new partner and it was suggested by a member of my family to set up a Dove Release service. I did some research and found that it was not something that was available anywhere in Greece, so I believe.

Greg and I have spent over a year preparing our Doves for release, training and feeding them is virtually a full time job and we have had quite a few new arrivals since the first Doves were purchased.

We attended our first wedding in Skala on the south east side of Kefalonia in September 2009. We spent a lot of time on our preparation of the cages and baskets and the release went without a hitch. The Doves were waiting for us when we got back home.

We provide Dove Release for all Ceremonial events. Weddings, Baptisms, Birthdays, Wedding Anniversaries, Renewing Wedding Vows, just about any event. The Dove symbolises so many things that we all wish for and I believe is a unique way to celebrate a special event. They are beautiful birds and they definitely are a talking point at any event.
