Four into two won't go.

My Fiat multiplas has died. RIP.
I'm trying not to be sentimental as we've been together over 9 years, travelled 127,000 miles and the car was a symbol of family life well shared. Our kids always took a friend each on days out and holidays and we had 3 dogs - so a 6 seater with a big boot was a must. Now the kids are independent and we COULD manage with 2 seats. Whoop - is this my zippy sports car phrase???

The thing is that when I was a bright young skinny thing I would have LOVED a little midget but could never afford one - or the insurance for that matter! Now I'm in my dotage with lots of no-claims bonus notched up I could do it. But would I still be able to hop in and out of it and (more to the point) would my elderly mother? Plus there is the risk of looking like 'mutton dressed as lamb' and embarrassing the kids...

I suppose what I've learnt from this is to 'Seize the Moment'. I should have done it thirty years ago and hang the expenses! Anyway I read the other day that anyone who lives within their means suffers from a serious lack of imagination.

I did try singing "Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?" but then felt guilty. Anyway he's already given me all I have for which I'm supremely grateful. So I'll try not to look at the Vintage Mercedes SL with a 'for sale' sign in the window that is right opposite church. Get thee behind me temptation....

So the Fiat goes to its final resting place and I thank God for the happy times we shared as a family, for safety on the roads as I travelled the country and for the privilege of working for the best boss in the universe and the chance to share so many golden moments with some wonderful people.
AMEN :-)
