Wherever you are, there is a Humanist Celebrant local to you

I have been reminded that for those of you in Scotland who would like your own personal, non-religious ceremony in your own choice of location, there is a separate Humanist Society of Scotland, with a list of legal celebrants.

In 2006 the Humanist Society of Scotland conducted nearly 500 legal weddings and is now the fifth most popular wedding provider in the country.

While most couples come from Scotland, many people now come from England and overseas to be legally married in a Humanist Ceremony. Scotland is now one of only three countries in the world where a humanist marriage is legal. The other two are Norway and some States of the USA.

For those of us who want to be married closer to home in England and Wales, the British Humanist Association has celebrants to help you create the wedding you want, even though you do need to visit your Council Register Office the day before to make it legal. We are still campaigning to make humanist weddings legal in England/Wales as well!

Humanist weddings in Scotland

Thanks for the mention Hilary!

It's been amazing here in Scotland with the demand for ceremonies continuing to grow - five fold since they became legal in 2005, according to the BBC.

We in the Humanist Society of Scotland very much support the BHA's campaign to change the law in England and Wales and wish you every success.

best wishes
