Wedding Ceremony Ideas

Hallo, and welcome to my new blog "Wedding Ceremony Ideas". James agreed with me that whilst a number of people are committed to being married in a church or other religious building, there are many of you for whom that would not be appropriate, and who still want a proper wedding, in front of your family and friends, and in a wonderful location, with words and music which are just right for you.

In some venues, you can pay for a Registrar from your local Council to attend; however they will have the power of veto over what you want to put into the ceremony, are tied to certain hours, may not take a wedding out of doors, and the venue has to pay a large amount of money for their legal licence, so is likely to indirectly pass those costs on to you.

Over the coming months I hope to show you many examples of how couples have created a wedding ceremony which is personal to them. For more details about how humanist ceremonies are organised, please go to my biography page

So how would you like your wedding to be remembered? Sometimes I see couples who want a theme. One couple had their ceremony in the historic hall of the Royal Society of Arts in central London. Their theme was that they had travelled round the world together for a year before they decided they really did want to marry each other, and love each other forever. So they asked four of their friends, at different times within the ceremony, to read out excerpts from their travel diaries. These were not only funny, but also showed that they had already come through some rough conditions together, so knew that marriage was not always a bed of roses.

Another couple had a theme of the 1930s. Not only did they choose music and wedding clothes from that period, they had the ceremony & reception in an art-deco building, and even hired 1930s furniture for the day.
