A work colleague is getting married in a church. She does not know what readings to choose. She is not a church goer and doesn't believe in God! all she knows is that she aint goin to promise to obey.
Hi Janey
The promise to obey was dropped from the wedding service ages ago - though it can be put back in if anyone really wants that option. If you marry in church you need to have one reading from the Bible and then you can have other secular readings if required.
There are lots of lovely readings - a popular one being (1 Corinthians 13 )which is all about Love. If you friend goes onto the Church of England website www.yourchurchwedding.org
then she'll be able to build her own sample wedding service and look at suggested hymns and readings - so she'll be able to get an idea of what her service will look like.
I hope this helps and that she'll be able to build a good relationship with the church beforehand. Who knows - she may even like it and decide to carry on attending :-)
Kind regards
Jan
