Ethical wedding bits and bobs

Phew! It's been a busy couple of weeks - hence the lack of post last week - and it's all, in one way or another, been wedding related!

Last Monday's important engagement was actually not a chore at all - we were celebrating our second wedding anniversary at the excellent Due South restaurant on Brighton seafront. We also celebrated our first wedding anniversary there (oops, getting into a routine already!) but this time round we managed to bag ourselves a window seat looking straight out over the sea...so romantic!

Due South was a winner in The Observer's Food Awards and is renowned for using local, organic and seasonal produce wherever possible. You can even get married there!

Then last night we legged it to London and back for a presentation of fruit cocktails courtesy of Fruto del Espiritu. The heavenly liquid fruit comes in six mouth watering flavours and a leading mixologist prepared the magic cocktails (or licuados) for us to taste before choosing our favourite.

Get in touch with Cordon Verde to see how you can serve sophisticated licuados at your wedding and find outhow offering these fruit punches or cocktails based on exotic Latin American fruits such as lulo and maracuya might actually save somebody's life!

My last engagement took place tonight. I have just returned from a Friends of the Earth meeting for Mid-Sussex, where I was representing responsibletravel.com.

The Director of Tourism Concern, Tricia Barnett, presented some moving stories of both the benefits and the harm that tourism can do around the world, and we debated the flying issue at some length with some stating that we should simply stop flying while others - responsibletravel.com included - suggest a fly less approach, saving long-haul flights for destinations where we can really make a difference with our tourism pound.

If you're planning your honeymoon and want to find out more, why not take a look at Tourism Concern and responsibletravel.com
And with that, I'm off to bed - I hope to be back next week in a more relaxed frame of mind!

Take care,

About me

Katie Fewings came up with the idea for Ethical Weddings, an online magazine and planning resource, in 2004 when she was beginning preparations for her own wedding. Struck by the high cost of the average wedding and keen for her wedding not to 'cost the earth' but rather give everyone something to celebrate, she set about seeking suitable suppliers and tips from brides and grooms who had been there before. Struggling to find such information, she decided to set up Ethical Weddings as a meeting place for likeminded brides and grooms, a directory of ethically motivated wedding suppliers, and informative articles and discussion of the issues.
