Wedding TV
Oops! I missed my Newlyweds slot again yesterday - but I had a good excuse! We were filming a short piece about ethical and green weddings for the Sky Channel, Wedding TV.
The lovely Mark from The Short Film Company (who also videos weddings...) got in touch a couple of weeks ago to say that of all the ideas he had put to Wedding TV, the ethical wedding one was the one they wanted him to pursue - which just goes to show how the concept is gaining in popularity.
As well as interviewing me about the idea behind Ethical Weddings, and my good friend Holly of Our Green Wedding List about her ethical and green gift list service, he also went out and about on the streets of Brighton trying to track down couples who looked like they might be getting married some time soon and asking them what they thought about a green wedding - he's a brave man!
The response he got was actually very positive with couples talking about donating the wedding dress to Oxfam after the big day, offsetting the carbon emissions of the guests, and honeymooning in the UK.
And no blank looks or puzzled 'uh?'s - we were impressed! Well done Brighton!
The crew also went to interview ethical chocolate shop, Montezuma, who can offer chocolates as favours for weddings. Apparently they had to do several takes to get the tasting the chocolate shot just right!
They finished up at Due South, the restaurant on Brighton beach that I've mentioned in previous posts for sourcing practically all their produce locally, and catering for weddings. Both Holly and I and the team from Due South had our interviews sitting outside the restaurant in glorious sunshine, gazing out over a very tropical looking sea...on days like this, you don't want to be anywhere else!
Look out for the ethical weddings piece on Wedding TV as part of their morning Wedding Breakfast Show in July...
Take care,
Katie

About Katie at Ethical Weddings
About me
Katie Fewings came up with the idea for Ethical Weddings, an online magazine and planning resource, in 2004 when she was beginning preparations for her own wedding. Struck by the high cost of the average wedding and keen for her wedding not to 'cost the earth' but rather give everyone something to celebrate, she set about seeking suitable suppliers and tips from brides and grooms who had been there before. Struggling to find such information, she decided to set up Ethical Weddings as a meeting place for likeminded brides and grooms, a directory of ethically motivated wedding suppliers, and informative articles and discussion of the issues.
