Can a Register Office offer a blessing?

I married my African husband at the register office in the Gambia last year and wanted a wedding blessing this year in the UK but as my husband is Muslim he doesn't want to go to church and I don't want to go to the mosque. Can I go to the register office again here?

The UK Register Offices are there to make your marriage legal.

If you want a unique personal wedding in front of your family and friends why not look at the British Humanist Association's website www.humanism.org.uk for a local celebrant.

That way you can have the words and music which mean most to you, and you don't have to follow any pre-arranged format. Do contact me if you have any more questions.

Further to Hilary's kind words of advice above, you must note that currently Humanist weddings do not constitute a legal marriage and as Hilary mentioned at the start of her comment you would need to have a Register Office ceremony as well.

When Hilary says the Humanist Wedding will be unique and personal, I am sure she does not mean that a Christian Wedding is not unique or personal, as I found my own was both unique and personal, but that is down to you and your vicar/ceremony leader to sort out!

Hi Julie
A wedding blessing is not a legal ceremony and doesn't require registers so it can basically happen anywhere. A Christian friend could do this for you in your garden if you like.
