Is it possible to have a Catholic marriage service in a Church of England church?

Dear Resident Reverend,

Both myself and my husband to be are Catholic. We are getting married next year and unfortunately the local catholic church has burnt down and is unlikely to be ready in time for the wedding. Other Catholic Churches in the area are too small for the number of guests we have. Is it an option for us to have a Catholic Service in a Church of England Church?

Who would we need to speak to?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Sally
James, the editor, has very helpfully pointed you to my previous posts where I explain that anyone can get married in an Anglican Church - so the venue is no problem. If you live in our parish we actually have a legal obligation to conduct your service as long as there are no impediments.

What you seem to be asking, though, is for your service to be conducted by a Roman Catholic Priest. There may well already be a co-operative strategy in place if your local church has burnt down. So why not check with your local Priest? If such a relationship doesn't already exist then your wedding might be the catalyst to bring it about, which would be lovely.

Start the conversations as soon as possible. Lucky you having so many friends that you need a big church...
kind regards
Jan

Thanks for asking your wedding question to the Resident Reverend here at Newlyweds-UK online wedding magazine. The Resident Reverend will answer your question as soon as she gets the chance, but in the mean time, can I refer you to a couple of the Resident Rev's previous wedding answers Can a RC marry a Church of Scotland in a CofE Church? and Can a Catholic couple get married in a Church of England church?
