Can you substitute a reading for a hymn?

I have chosen two hymns for my service 13 Oct 2007. All things bright and beautiful and O' Perfect Love. Our families are not familiar with O' Perfect Love, I was wondering if I could substitute a hymn for another reading?

At the moment we are in the middle of the flood situation and feel my vicar will be busy helping those in need.

Hi Ceri
You don't need to have any hymns at a wedding (though I think its nice to sing some) so it's fine to substitute one for a reading and perhaps preferable to singing something no-one knows and labouring through it.

Legally you need to have at least one reading from the Bible and then you can choose another from elsewhere

I do hope you have a bright sunny dry day for your wedding.

Hi Ceri
Perfect reading - and my favourite too. It's funny that it's so popular as it is part of a stern letter to the Corinthian church, telling them off for not caring properly for each other, and for lording it over each other in different ways.

But the Apostle Paul then says "And now I will describe a more perfect way..." and he goes on to talk about the qualities of love. Good advice for a church but also for any couple. Why not try printing it out and referring to it if an argument is ever brewing....
warm regards
