Who is the cheque for the Banns of Marriage made out to?

This may seem an odd question but one i need to ask.

Is it normal to write a cheque for our Certificate of Banns made out to the Vicar rather than the Parish Church and if this is normal, then is it perfectly acceptable that our receipt is a handwritten note on headed parish church paper, rather than an audited invoice.

Any advice on this matter would be greatly received.

Many Thanks in advance

Hi Rachel

Some of your church expenses are payable directly to the vicar who has then to declare them to the diocese and then to the IR. The diocese deduct any incoming monies from his/her Stipend (which is an amount of money paid to clergy to allow them to spend time in ministry and not having to hunt for a job.) It's complicated - but Clergy are classed as self-employed.

Everything is written in registers - including your banns - so there are proper records kept. Though your vicar doesn't issue official invoices he can't simply keep the money. So nothing illegal here, but it's fine to check.
