Can expat Americans get married in Oxford?

Dear Reverend,

My fiance and I are both Americans. However I've been living in Oxford for the past two years, and have regularly attended church in a parish here. I'd very much like to be married here in Oxford, but I'm not sure what that would look like legally!

Would we still have banns read and so forth, and would we have to do any additional paperwork to make it legal in the United States?

We'll be moving back to the States after the wedding so I want to make sure I cross all the t's.

Thank you very much,

Lydia Carr

Hi Lydia
If you've been living here for so long and are a member of the church it should be perfectly OK to marry here. It sounds as if you could go ahead and have banns read as normal but if you are in doubt then your Vicar will check it out with the diocesan registrar.

Every blessing
Jan
