In need of a Registrar at Christmas!

My friend has planned to get married in the chapel at Bearwood College in Reading on 23rd December. Her fiancee is an ex student and the college have given their permission.

They are now facing a problem as the vicar had not booked a registrar. He is now struggling to get hold of one. Do you know how I would find an Anglican Registrar and how to go about booking them?

I apologise if I have come to the wrong place, but I would greatly appreciate any information you could provide me with.

Kind Regards

Jessica Hardy

Hi Jessica
Don't worry you HAVE come to the right place. If we can't answer your question we try to tell you where to find the information.

There is no such thing as an Anglican registrar. An Anglican Vicar in charge of a church is automatically a registrar and fills in the church registers which are the appropriate legal documents. But this can only happen on church premises

The problem here is that the Vicar is taking a service elsewhere so a registrar will need to be present. The venue will need to be licenced for weddings and someone will need to contact the local registry office. If they don't have a registrar available they may well be able to pass you onto a colleague in the next town. I'm not sure of the legalities - usually a registrar officiates at the wedding and then leaves before any prayers.

If you can't get hold of a registrar the only 'get out clause' would be to get married in a registry office or at the local church and then have a blessing service in the chapel. Talk to the registry office asap...
best wishes
