Dear Resident Reverend,
I have contacted the church of my parent's parish that I and my younger siblings were all christened in, and they said we could marry there either when the law changes, or by applying for a special licence.
As our wedding is not until May 2010, the church are happy to hold the date provisionally while we wait to see what happens with the new Marriage Measure.
Is it definite that it is being introduced in Oct 2008? The lady at the church office wasn't sure when it would be introduced and so I was wondering whether 1st October is a guess or whether it may be delayed or not happen.
I would be grateful for your advice on this. Also am I right in thinking that if my I attended this church regularly for 6 months (as it is the next parish along from the one we live in) that we would then be eligible to join the church electoral role and marry by banns anyway, whether the new marriage measure is introduced or not, as I would be more than happy to attend regularly.
Many thanks

Hi A
The Marriage Measure will happen on October 1st and so you'll be able to marry in the church no problem.
However - if you would like to attend regularly I'm sure they would be delighted and you'll get to know the people there and feel part of the family of the church. That will definately make your wedding all the more special. So I would thoroughly recommend this.
Either way you'll be fine
warmest
