Dear Elle,
Have you got any ideas for me? can you help?! I am struggling now to find a song for our first dance! We want something with great meaningful words but something thats different than what other people have. Even if its an old song. We originally had Shania Twains from this moment then we went to a lot of weddings last year and it was used a lot so put us off then we fancied all-4-one i swear but decided bit too corny. the hubby-to-be loves Eva Cassidy songbird but I haven't heard it in full and am struggling to find a copy of it, I know thats a different one but need to listen to it first. i quite like the Jacksons i`ll be there but again he`s not fussed on it. just wondered if you had any ideas! help!!!
thanks Cheryl xxx

thanks for the advice. we have written a short list and we think we have decided to stick to our original shania`s from this moment even tho a few people have it as we do love it and love the words and as soon as we both first heard it we felt it was right. stick to what u know! thanks tho x
Dear Cheryl,
Do not despair, you are not alone! I have had many a couple getting married who have put all their ideas into place for their big day, yet when it comes to the first dance they are stumped.
Choosing a first dance needs agreement from both of you. Instead of trying to pick a song, go through your music collection and between you pick out all the songs you really like. Many will probably bring back memories for both of you and it gives you a good opportunity to have giggle about them!
If you can create a shortlist of all the songs you both really like there is bound to be one in there that ticks the boxes on having the right words and meaning. But before, you commit yourself to one, play all of the songs on your list whilst you and your hubby (to be) try to dance to them. I can guarantee that you will rule some out immediately, but one or two are bound to shine! At that point its about making your first compromise ....
Its easy to lose sight of what the first dance is actually for. When I got married we choose a really slow dance then changed it the night before because it just didn't feel like us, we went for something much more up-beat which suited us much better!
You could always recreate the 'Dirty Dancing' dance, complete with lift!!!!
Good luck!
Elle
