Dear Resident Reverend,
I am in a small pickle about where and which church I can get married in. I was brought up in Oxfordshire and would love to go home to be married there (my mother still lives in the region.) I joined the Royal Navy at 16 and ended up living in Portsmouth where I live now. Would I be able to choose a church or would it have to be in my mother’s parish? I am not a regular at church but I would like to start going again as getting married in the eyes of god is extremely important to myself and my fiancé.
Thank you so much for your time.
With best wishes.
Sara

Hi Sara
With effect from October 1st you can get married in a church where you have a qualifying connection eg you were baptised or confirmed there, parents or grandparents married there - or where you have lived for at least 6 months.
I'm delighted that you want to start attending church again and I'm sure you'll find a warm welcome
Kind regards
Jan
