Dear Resident Reverend,
My fiance and wish to marry in September this year in his village church. We have started making plans but these are confused by a) no vicar incumbent and b) the church warden tells us the church in our village can not perform wedding ceremonies (yet it can perform baptisms and funerals).
We desperately wish to marry in this church as my fiance has always lived on a farm within 100 yards of it and we will spend our married life on the same farm.
We are unable to get clear clarification on wether the church is in fact able to conduct a wedding ceremony and if it isnt, the best way to be able to conduct a ceremony in there. We would consider a non-religious ceremony if we had to.
I hope you can help as we are getting nowhere fast and time is now very pressing!
Many thanks
Angela

Hi Angela
I'm not sure why the church is not licensed for weddings. That is unusual.
Have a look at the church notice board to see which diocese you live in and then contact the diocesan office. The local Area/rural dean is in charge while there is no incumbent so try to find out who that is so you can get a proper explanation.
AS you say - time is pressing. If you do end up with a Civil Ceremony you can ask for a blessing service in the church
Hope this helps and you get it sorted out. Come back to me if you need further advice
warm regards
Jan
