Can a French man (civil divorcee) marry a British Protestant residing in France, in England?

Dear Resident Reverend, bonjour,

My fiance, who is French, divorced a few years ago. He only had a civil mariage back then and I would therefore like to know if we can get married in a Church in England after a civil marriage in France?

Thanks in advance!

Tessa

Hi Tessa
The fact that the previous marriage was a Civil ceremony is irrelevant I'm afraid.
However, it is legally possible to marry in the Church of England now, so do go and see your local Vicar. It is their choice whether to officiate at the wedding but they will be able to advise you further.
