Is a 'Beni Separati' valid when we return to the UK?

Bridesmaids with bouquets

Dear Resident Reverend,

We are getting married in Italy under a "beni separati" civil ceremony.
This means that all finances are kept separate. Is this valid when we return to the UK or will all assets etc be shared.

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony
If you get married with a legally binding financial arrangement then I guess that it is valid in any country. That would be a question for a solicitor rather than a Vicar - not sure totally about this.

What I do know is that people wanting to organise such a contract can't really then have a church wedding as the vows state "All that I am I give to you and all that I have I share with you" - which doesn't allow for 'pre-nups'.

I hope you have a wonderful wedding. I spent three days in Milan recently and enjoyed the enthusiasm of the spoken language, so no doubt your promises will be made with a flourish!
warm regards
Jan
