Just married in sand

Dear Resident Reverend,

My fiance and I are planning to get married in Barbados. We were both baptised RC, and are UK nationals we are not practicing catholics and we have just started attending our local anglian church in Colchester.

We would very much like to be married in St James anglian church in Barbados, but are unsure if it would be possible since i have been married before (in a registrey office). Also we are not sure if we would need any special licence from a Bishop to be married in a Church in Barbados. We know that the minimum residency is one day in Barbados before a wedding can take place, but i've been unable to find out if this includes Church weddings.

Any advice is very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Emma

Hi Emma
To be honest I don't know the answer to this though I suspect that the answer is the same as in England where residency would be set at 15 days and you could only then apply for a licence which would then last 3 months. Banns would be inappropriate as you don't live there so you would need either a Common Licence which is based on one persons qualifying residency or Special Licence. However I'm not sure about this outside of the usual jurisdiction of England or Wales.

You could check with the Diocesan registrar or better still if you have a wedding organiser in Barbados ask them to follow this up for you.
Sounds a FAB location - have a great wedding.
jan
