Silver heart

Dear Resident Reverend,

We want to have "I do, I will, I have" by Ogden Nash as one of the readings at our (Church) wedding, and have OK'd it with the vicar. We would like to print the poem in our order of service, as my other half is foreign, and not all his family & friends understand spoken English that well. However I am worried about copyright issues, and have been hunting all over the internet trying to work out if I need to get permission to print the poem, and if so who from. Can you advise?

Thanks

Harriet

Hello Harriet
I'm not sure what to advise on this.
Obviously Ogden Nash died over 30 years ago, but someone may own the rights to his stuff. This is American poetry but it's in the public domain on the web.

If the Church has a licence you may be able to ask the Vicar if it can be entered on their sheet. Then the copyright people can sort it out. If there is extra to pay over & above the licence fee for songs the church can let you know.
This seems like a good place to start.

You will need to have a reading from the Bible as well - but no doubt your Vicar has advised you of this
Hope this helps
jan
