Dear Resident Reverend,
We have met with the vicar at a church where I grew up. Neither myself or my parents have actually lived in the Parish but have lived in the surrounding area for many years. I have moved away (250 miles) and the vicar has agreed to marry us on condition that we "habitually" attend church for 6 months.
I am a little nervous as we cannot attend church there until end of Jan due to financial and work restraints. We can apply to be added to the electoral roll 6 months after we first attended which will be the end of July. We are getting married end of Sept - is that sufficent time? Who adds you to the electoral roll and where do we get the form from?
The vicar was very vague and I am concerned it might go wrong
thank you,
Jo

Hi Jo
As long as you hold up your side of the bargain and the Vicar is aware of the wedding date I can't see any problems and I'm sure he'll be willing to pencil in your date and time in the diary to reassure you.
The banns can only be read during the 3 months before the wedding anyway and are normally 3 consecutive weeks so they can be read during August according to your reckoning.
I think you just need to be up-front and explain your concerns. Ask him to spell out what he considers to be regular attendance so that there are no hiccups. I'm sure when he sees you mean business it'll be easier to communicate about this.
