Is it possible to have a civil ceremony and a church blessing at a later date instead of getting married in church?
I actually want to get married in church as the religious aspect is important to me but we have booked a reception venue about half an hour away from our parish church - ideally I would love to get married at the church next to the reception venue but I don't believe this is possible - would it be possible to have some sort of church blessing at either this church or our local one soon afterwards ?
Thanks

Hi, my fiance and I are getting married in America next year however we are both catholica and understand that although the marriage will be legally recognised it won't be in the eyes of the catholic church. Is it possible for us to get a blessing of some kind or recieve the sacrament of marriage when we come home?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Sarah Jane
I can't speak for the Roman Catholic Church but I'm sure it must be possible.
In The Church of England we certainly offer a Service of Blessing after Civil Marriage and there is a special service already written for this purpose.
This is really a question for your own Priest. Why not chat about it now before the event.

Hi Tracy Jane
Yes it is perfectly possible to have a blessing in church after a Civil wedding and the Church of England has a service already written for this purpose. It is usually your own Vicar who conducts the service in your local church.
However, this is not a legal ceremony, so there are no hard and fast rules so why not ask the Vicar of the church near the hotel and see what happens. He or she may well be able to accommodate you if you don't already have a relationship with your own parish church.
It's worth asking
Have a great day
warm regards
