Keeping all parties happy

My fiance's father is a Church of England Vicar and my fiance is set on his father performing the service. However I have always dreamed of a castle wedding so have been searching for the ultimate combination on one site which is very difficult.

Ideally I would like my wedding reception venue and ceremony to take place on one site so we do not have to cart guests around and hire wedding transport. I have found a lovely venue down in Somerset which has a private island church and the reception venue is a grand old castle/manor house.

My question is can a vicar perform a marraige service out of his own parish? Or assist in the service? This is crucial to the wedding plans and if this is illegal I wil have to get married closer to home.

Please help!

Hi
Vicars can marry people outside of their own parish as long as the Vicar of the wedding location is happy for someone else to take the service as they are the official registrar in their own church. Your Father-in-law will know this already.

However,It sounds like the church in question is a family chapel and not a parish church, in which case it won't have registers so you won't be able to get married there unless a registrar conducts the legal part of the service. Once the registrar has left the premises you could then let Dad stand in and conduct a Service of blessing if you wanted to do it that way.

Best to talk it over with him and he'll explain more fully
Hope you CAN please everyone - very difficult task!
Kind regards
Jan
