wedding and blessing?

Dear Resident Rev,

Hoping you can help. Because my father was awarded a MBE whilst in the Royal Air Force I have apparently got the right to be married at St Clement Danes in London, the RAF Church. I don't quite understand how this works as I wouldn't have the 6 months living in or worshiping at the Church, but it seems an RAF special thing.

However as myself and my partner live in North Yorkshire we would like to celebrate the wedding near there. Would it be possible for us to marry at St Clement Danes during the week, with an intimate family group and then invite most people to a blessing service locally? It seems you have do things like have a service to re-new your wedding vows - but could you do that only a few days after having made them?

many thanks

Dear 'durhamgirl'
Yes you can have a Civil wedding in the morning and go straight into church for Prayers of Blessing after a Civil Marriage. Or You can get married abroad and come home to a blessing service with the family and friends who are unable to join you on the beach. There doesn't have to be a great time lapse.

I don't know of this RAF system but presumably you have researched it thoroughly. If it is the case that you can get there it is perfectly ok to ask your local Vicar for a Service of Blessing a few days after your wedding.

Have a great time at both ceremonies!
warm regards
Jan
