Hello, I hope you may be able to help.
I am in a bit of a dilemma. Myself and my fiance have been looking forward to our wedding for a year since we set the date, and it is now just one month away, unfortunately my grandmother has been taken ill and is not likely to recover, we have spoken and as a family we have decided that my fiance and I will go ahead with our marriage ceremony (in a registrar office with our witnesses) and go on our honeymoon as planned.
I would, however, like to have the marriage blessed in a church (my fiance is not a Christian and therefore did not want to be married in a church, but he acknowledges that it means a lot to me to have a blessing on our marriage).
I must admit I do not attend church every Sunday, but I do live my life according to the Christian teachings, and my family and I have taken comfort in our faith in this difficult time.
I have a meeting arranged with the vicar, but I am nervous. Will the fact that I have not attended church every Sunday be a problem, and also that my fiance is not a Christian?
Please advise me as I am quite concerned.
Many thanks, Tess

Hi Tess
Don't worry about the meeting with the Vicar. If you live in our parish we consider that you belong to us and it's our duty to care for you, whether you attend church or not. So I'm sure you'll find a warm welcome.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandmother's illness but it is in times like this that faith keeps us afloat and I'm glad you are discovering this as a family.Death is the natural order of things and the great tragedy is when people die 'out of order' and grandparents and parents bury their children. I'm sure your Gran would see it that way.
Church families are a great comfort in times of difficulty and you may like to keep going after your service. If that proves too difficult because your partner doesn't share your faith, then remember the promise of Jesus - I'm with you always - even to the end of time. You can pray anywhere!
Kind regards
Jan
