Is it possible to recieve the sacrament of marriage in the catholic church after getting married abroad?

Hi, my fiance and I are getting married in America next year however we are both catholics and understand that although the marriage will be legally recognised it won't be in the eyes of the catholic church.

Is it possible for us to get a blessing of some kind or recieve the sacrament of marriage when we come home?

Hi Sarah Jane
I can't speak on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church so this is really a question for your own Parish Priest.

Certainly in the Church of England we have a service of 'Prayers after Civil Wedding' already written in our Pastoral Services Book and you may well find that the Catholic Church have the same.

Why not go and have a chat now before the wedding?
