Can you book the Church while waiting for Divorce?

I'm waiting for my divorce papers to come through from a previous marriage, I've been with my current partner for 9 years and we plan to get married.
Can I still book the church without the paperwork?

Well I guess in theory you can, especially if the wedding is a way off and you are simply wanting to plan the timing. However, the Vicar must have sight of the Decree Absolute in order for the Marriage to take place. So if the papers are delayed for any reason you won't be able to go ahead with the service, even if you feel the church has been booked.
Hopefully you can get it all through in time.
