Where Can We Get Married?

Hi,

My boyfriend and I would like to get married in a church but none that is in our local area.

We are also a little confused on the rules that are mentioned about the 7 connections with the parish that have been mentioned.

Neither of us go to church regularly but we both have faith and want to be married in front of the eyes of god, family and friends. The problem is that the churchs in our immediate area are not very nice as in scenery for the photos to take place after and we would like a church that will be closer to where we have the reception...

If we attended a church that we liked as a Parishioner for 6 months then may we apply to be married there even though we do not live in that area or ever likely to? Can we not just choose a church and marry in any of them in this day and age like other civil ceremonies available now?

Please help we have about 18 months until we want to marry and need advice quickly so we can get ourselves recognised in the church to be married in if that is our only option.

Thank you

Hi Mimi
You can marry in your local church. Or a church with which you have a link. The link can be that your parents or grandparents were married there, or you were baptised or confirmed there. Or that you lived in that parish for 6 months at some time in your life, whether you attended church or not.

Failing that you will have to attend the church for 6 months as you suggest. These are parliament rules and not church rules.

hope this is clear now and you can make a choice - you've got time to do the latter if necessary.
Kind regards
Jan
