Interfaith church blessing

Dear Reverend,

I really hope you can help. My husband and i married abroad but I would like us to have church blessing. I am C of E but he is muslim. I spoke to a reverend some time ago and he said blessings are easy and can be written to suit the couple and that we could edit the service so that references to Jesus are excluded. My husband is happy to have a Christian service and for Jesus to be mentioned. The only point he doesn't agree with is Jesus being the son of God. I have liaised with a local reverend and she said it will compromise her faith if she didn't include this.

We both want Gods blessing on our marriage but don't know how we can do it or approach the subject without causing offence either to my husband or the church.

Also are there any restrictions on having a church blessing out of the parish?

Many thanks, Louisey

Hi Louisey
Any Christian can say prayers and ask God's blessing for your relationship and a service like this can take place anywhere. In which case you could write your own words.

If you want a service in church then you would really have to negotiate this with your minister of choice. The Church of England liturgy would definately refer to Jesus in this way but there are no rules for blessings, only recommendations.

Hope this helps
Kind regards
