Reading of Banns

Hi there

My partner and I are getting married on Sat 10th July 2010 in a Church outside of our parish. The Reverend of the Church we are marrying in has asked us to have our banns read in our home town first and bring her the Certificate. I moved out of my home town a year and a half ago after living there for 24 years. My parents still live there. Do you know if the law states whether we could get our banns read at my parents local church? We would much prefer it as we have not attended our local church at all.

I anxiously await your reply.

Thank You

Hi
You do need to have banns read in the parish where you currently reside - though you can have them read in your parents church as well if you wish.
The minister needs the signed certificate in order to proceed with the wedding. These are not church rules but they are set by Parliament. Hope this helps

kind regards
