The church with an attitude

I've just spent two days with the Church of England Weddings Project team thinking how the Church can improve our welcome to Brides and Grooms. As 'Investors in Weddings' we would really love it if you felt you wanted to stick with us when the last bit of confetti has finally composted itself on the church rose bed. Hence my poll below: I really want to know - What do Wedding Couples Want?

I bet no-one else reading this website is old enough to remember the TV programme with the title above...it was a roundup of all the happenings in the week. Anyway it has been an amazing week in the Church of England and I'm delighted to be part of it! The long awaited Marriage Measure became law on October 1st and we've been celebrating. Hopefully you'll think it's a cause for celebration too as you now have much more freedom in your choice of venue for a church wedding.Hurray!

Yesterday I was at York Minster to watch the Consecration of 3 new Church of England Bishops - two of them to my home diocese of Manchester. During the service I was struck by the similarity to a wedding. Not really surprising as the Bible refers to the Church as the Bride of Christ...

Friday brings a close to the working week, however the weddings questions continue, and NewlyWeds-UK seems to be the place to come with all your wedding questions, especially if you have religion, race, or citzenship issues... Hmmm I can see a dedicated section coming along!

I've been reading through the Church of England's official responses to frequently asked questions, which the editor has helpfully posted on this site. I already knew them off by heart of course - just 'brushing up' you understand!

When I saw the question "We're not sure we're religious enough, does that matter?" I wanted to yell "NO - stay as sweet as you are!" But then I'm biased because I'm not religious either.

So you are getting married! Congratulations. If you’re thinking of a church wedding, it will involve meeting your vicar for a chat. Don’t worry, it’s not like going to the doctor!
Here are some frequently asked questions from the Church of England. You can also ask our Resident Rev Jan Harney anything by simply posting a comment on the Resident Reverend blog.

Where do we start?

What a very informative website this is.

I've been going through my diary, entering all the dates for Wedding Shows as they are very conveniently listed here.

If you're planning to visit any Wedding Shows, do look out for the Church of England stand and stop by for a chat. You'll be guaranteed a welcome.
