Walking into doors and stargazing

I walked into a door this morning.
I realise that this phrase can be a euphemism for domestic violence - as in Roddy Doyles very sad book - 'The Woman Who Walked into Doors'. Some people think that the church dictates that you marry for life and that's that. So they feel stuck in abusive relationships. This is not the case, as the word 'Cherish' is written into the marriage vows and anyone who abuses their partner has broken that vow. I would never encourage anyone to stay in a violent relationship. Best to leave with dignity intact.

While a wedding places considerable stress on the bride and groom, little thought - if any - is ever given to just how stressed the best man can be. Putting together a wedding speech takes a lot of effort, and there is usually considerable expectation for the best man to perform, more so even than the groom on the big night ?

The Secret World of Wedding Planning

Ok, so you’ve heard the horror stories about the wedding planner that took over the preparations and left the bride wondering what on earth happened to her dream wedding. You know they’re expensive, unnecessary, and are only for brides that are rich, famous, or too lazy to plan their own wedding. So let me tell you something that may come as a surprise – it’s all a big myth!

Despite the increasing popularity and prominence of wedding planners, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the work we do. Be honest, how many times have you come across an advert for a wedding planner and thought “what do they actually do?” or “why on earth should I pay someone to plan my wedding when I can do it myself?”

Well, why not grab a cuppa (and a biscuit if you’re not already on the pre-wedding diet!), get yourself comfortable and let me take you inside the world of wedding planning...

The Church of England has been quoted in the Press as saying that married couples have better sex and more of it. They even use the word spectacular. Wow - that's worth having an early night for!

Here at Newly-Weds we want to compile our readers stories of how they got engaged. Whether you jumped out of a plane together or were scuba driving together, whether you were in your mum's lounge or on holiday - we want all the details! Tell us about the romance, how long you'd know each other and why you said yes!!

We do weddings superbly in the Church of England. At the risk of blowing our Parish Trumpet I'd go so far as to say that we are THE experts. We're also pretty good at funerals and fantastic at Thanksgivings and Baptisms (and we don't charge for these latter two services, unlike the civil naming ceremonies that are becoming popular). But what you may not be aware of is that the Church is able to offer a service of Blessing after civil marriage.

When planning Weddings, I always advise that a gift list of some sort should be included when sending our the inviations. However, I recently attended Wedding Reception of an old school friend who didn't include a gift list. I always like to take a wrapped gift, so I went a bought a gift that I liked in the hope that my friend would like it too.

Deciding where to get married is easier for some couples rather than for others. If you have grown up dreaming of that Church Wedding the decision has been made for you, subject to the necessary permissions need to marry in the Church of your choice. You should speak to your Reverend about your wish to marry in the church or email our very own Resident Reverend if you have any questions or need any further guidance.

The order in which you present the speeches is Father of the Bride, Groom then the Best Man. Sometimes, other people like to speak too, keep it to a minimum, you don't need 3 hours of speeches - and if the Bride want to make a speech, let her .... she is the Bride! She should speak either before or after the Groom depending on what her preference is.
