Who let the dogs out?

Celebrity bride Ayda did a walkies up the aisle - with eight dogs as bridesmaids as she married Robbie Williams at his LA mansion.

The pets would have been perfectly at home - after all it was their own back garden. They wore collars of flowers for the big day and were no doubt treated to a Hollywood sized steak for their supper. Hopefully they were all bright-eyed and bushy tailed afterwards.

Is it just me, or is the whole dating thing becoming Big Business? I suppose in years gone by there were the Lonely Hearts columns with code like GSOH and NS to decipher. But now there are a whole host of websites willing to advertise you for £20 a month.

The Bible is full of very potent sayings, and one that sprung to mind this week is: “A nagging wife is like a dripping tap”. You’d think a self-employed builder would be able to sort out his own ‘dripping tap’, especially if they’d only been married a year. But 38 year old Garry Bates decided to simply advertise his wife, Donna, for sale in Trade-it magazine, along with some of his fishing tackle.

I was intrigued by a comment that popped up on the side of my computer screen this morning saying “Adultery is not the end of marriage.” The link led to an American MSNBC news article about a website called Ashley Maddison, which is causing a few ripples across The Pond. The website is the brainchild of Noel Biderman, an American businessman who is making a crock of gold out of a crock of … Well, out of promoting serial infidelity. Enough said.

Vicars quite often joke that we're in the business of hatches, matches and dispatches and they've all been on my radar in the last couple of weeks. The most recent was the hatch (last Sunday) when a friend's little girl was baptised. They forgot to tell the Vicar that she headbutts when anyone picks her up...At the risk of sounding a selfish so-and-so, I'm glad I was simply a guest on that occasion.

My husband got notice of a new tax code today. It took into account various criteria, except that he is married to a chocoholic with expensive taste (only the FairTrade 70% stuff will do) - or really that that he is married to anyone for that matter!

I read a lovely story in The Week today. How is this for a tear jerker?
A Russian man has been reunited with his wife, 60 years after she was sent into exile in Siberia.Boris Kozlov was in the Red Army at the time, and when he came home he found no trace of his wife Anna. Decades later Boris returned to the village to visit his father's grave. That same day Anna came home and was standing by their old house. As he got out of the car he saw her.

Brave words by Edith Piaf – yet most of us feel we have something to regret and a new book entitled ‘The Book of Regrets’* has been published. It’s a compilation of contributions by celebrities who talk about the thing they regret in life, with proceeds going to charity. Most of them (like the Archbishop of Canterbury who wished he had approached W.H Auden in a teashop) regretted things they didn’t do. Both Libby Purves and Bel Mooney wished they had been more adventurous and both (unsurprisingly) quoted Edith Piaf’s signature tune.

Happy Valentines Day! I hope the postman brought you a card this morning - or was it said with flowers? Better still with a long, lingering kiss.

Apparently the world's longest kiss started on Valentine's Day in 2004. It lasted 31 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds and the female partner needed oxygen treatment afterwards. Not recommended. The average person spends 2 weeks of their life kissing and it burns up 26 calories a minute - that's half a million calories. What ARE you waiting for?
